LL Enters the Clothing Game |
|
Much like every other hip-hop star, mini-mogul and emcee wanna-be Ladies Love Cool James will be launching a clothing line next month.
We don’t want to bury the lead in this story because the real story is that the hop-hop elder statesman and family man will vend his L.L. Cool J Collection exclusively at Sears. The retail outlet will carry Mr. Smith’s line at 450 of its stores beginning September 7th and will encompass apparel for men, juniors and children.
Not one to miss out on the cross-promotional strategy that most artists use to launch new projects this foray into the world of gear will nicely coincide with the release of L.L.’s thirteenth studio album. We hope that number isn’t an omen. Exit 13 hits shelves
September 9th and is his final album on the iconic label he helped launch with a young Russell Simmons in 1984 as one of Def Jams first artists. Grandmaster Caz, 50 Cent, The Dream and Richie Sambora are some of the artists that will bless this offering from Cool J.
The campaign will build buzz from an advertising blitz featuring black and white photos by celebrated photog Mark Seliger and will display L.L. with his family sporting the new line. The album and gear will also be available online at Sears.com; they are looking to Stephon Marbury’s strategy of making cool affordable by keeping prices in the $20-$60 range.
